A mistrial was declared Thursday in the case of a 27-year-old man accused of stabbing to death his friend.
Jacob Le was on trial for the murder of 23-year-old Brent “Ola” Kanae in Oct. 2012.
Court documents say Le admitted to police that he stabbed Kanae several times in an Ala Moana Center stairwell.
According to the jury foreman, 11 of the jurors voted to convict Le of murder, but one did not, resulting in the mistrial.
“We were hoping for some kind of justice, a verdict that sort of gave them closure, but we’ll do it again,” deputy prosecutor Kristine Yoo said.
Another hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15 to determine a date for a retrial.
