Tonight at UFC fight night in Atlanta, Georgia Hilo native Brad Tavares extended his win streak to five fights, beating 13th ranked middleweight Lorenz Larkin.
Tavares won by unanimous decision on the co-main event, moving his record to 12-1.
The victory could land the 26-year-old in the UFC’s top 10 of the middleweight division for the first time in his career.
Earlier in the night, Kapolei’s Louis Smolka successfully made his UFC debut, carding an impressive unanimous decision victory over Alptekin Ozkilic.
Entering as a three-to-one underdog, “The Last Samurai” improved to 7-0 in his career.
Over the last month, Hawai’i born fighters are 6-0 in the UFC. Smolka and Tavares join Travis Browne, Max Holloway, Dustin Kimura, and Russell Doane in the winner’s circle.
