A 2-year-old child is dead after being run over by a car in Kalihi.
The incident happened after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of a store on Kohou Street.
“When they got there what they had learned was that a family had parked over there to go to a supply store. And the father and an infant remained in the vehicle, while the mother and a 2-year-old went to the store. When the mother and the 2-year-old came out, the father began to drive up towards the store to pick them up. When the 2-year-old ran in front of the vehicle, the father did not see the child. And his child was subsequently struck by the vehicle,” Honolulu Police Department Lt. Bobby Towne said.
The parents took the child to the Queen’s Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead.
Police say excessive speed and alcohol are not factors in the accident.
