Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mitchell Kai, the 28-year-old Honolulu firefighter who died in a fall from the Olomana Trail.
Dozens of his colleagues from the fire department, Honolulu Police Department, and Emergency Medical Services were on hand for the ceremonies.
It was a solemn time as they all paid their respects to Kai and his family.
“We go into some pretty severe situations and just like on the battlefield, you know. That guy’s got your back whatever it might be and you got his. And so that’s what that really grows out of that brotherhood, knowing that somebody’s there for you in your dark hour,” said Kalai Miller, Honolulu Fire Department.
Following the funeral, a fire engine carrying Kai passed by the Kalihi Fire Station, where he served.
The procession then moved to Kaneohe where he will be buried.
