A power outage cancelled classes at Waikiki Elementary School on Thursday, leaving parents scrambling to find child care.
The power went out at about 6 a.m., cutting electricity to some 1,700 customers in Kapahulu and Waikiki.
School officials say they decided to cancel classes because it was unclear if the cafeteria would have power to prepare school lunches.
Parents were alerted about the closure at about 7:15 a.m., which is about when power was restored.
But by then, classes had been cancelled.
