Witnesses: Man fired gun during arrest in Kahala

Kahala police incident

A car crash, foot chase, and a gunshot. That’s what witnesses were reporting from a Kahala neighborhood.

Honolulu police say the incident started at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday when officers were attempting to arrest 32-year-old Nicolas Nakano, who’s wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Witnesses say they saw police chasing a vehicle when it crashed into a BMW and flipped over on Makaiwa Street. Witnesses say the driver got out and possible ran through some homes.

Police caught up with Nakano just outside the Waialae Country Club, where residents say they heard a gunshot.

Police say Nakano fired a shot in close range of officers before he was arrested on Kealaolu Avenue.

He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Nakano faces 11 charges including three counts of attempted murder and multiple firearm charges.

He is being held without bail.
