Imagine requiring to get a license to fish.
That’s what one lawmaker wants.
Representative Cindy Evans proposed a bill that would require shore fishermen, boaters and spear fishermen to obtain a license before casting their lines.
The idea is to allow the state to better manage fisheries.
“There have been many people over the years approach me saying it should be similar to hunting, we should have fishing license so we can educate people on the seasons, size they should be taking, or not taking, rules, safety,” Rep. Cindy Evans (D), North Kona.
The bill was deferred on Friday and may be taken out to the public for input.
