Gusty winds damage power lines on Big Island

Puna wind damage

Gusty winds caused a lot of damage and a mess on the Big Island Thursday.

In Puna, winds up to 35 miles per hour caused large trees to fall and damage power lines.

“It looked like a war zone, trees everywhere, wires everywhere. It was just like a mess. In some spots,  you couldn’t even see the streets,” said Mike Egan. “It was just so covered with leaves and branches.”

Hawaii Electric Light Company says they are working to restore power outages in Hawaiian Beaches, Hawaiian Paradise Park, and various locations in east Hawaii Island.
