Times Supermarket in Kihei was evacuated Wednesday night.
The incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on South Kihei Road.
Officials say a compressor that runs the refrigeration unit malfunctioned and created a white vapor cloud, which was determined to be refrigerant.
About 30 employees and customers were evacuated into the parking lot
Maui police closed South Kihei Road fronting the store and West Lipoa on the south side of the store. Roads were reopened approximately 30 minutes later.
Two employees complaining of dizziness and shortness of breath were treated on the scene.
Maui Fire officials say Hazmat gave all clear to the area at about 11 p.m.
Repair crews were allowed to enter the store to begin repairs.
The store reopened Thursday morning.
