The ‘Mighty Mo’ is celebrating a dual anniversary this weekend.
The USS Missouri launched 70 years ago on Jan. 29.
Then 15 years ago it opened to the public as a museum right next to the sunken USS Arizona Memorial.
To celebrate they held a “living history” day with special presentations and re-enactments for visitors.
“Today there are bands out on the pier, there are special presentations being made by the tour guides of areas that aren’t always necessarily open to the ship. There’s displays of military vehicles and other types of military hardware,” Mike Carr said.
Admission to the Missouri Memorial is free to all Hawaii residents and military members.
