City locks bathrooms due to vandalism

Restrooms

Bathrooms and showers at McCoy Pavillion at Ala Moana Beach Park are locked up and the city says the homeless are to blame.

The city says the restrooms were being continually vandalized by homeless people, so it decided to close the restrooms.

Jeffrey Ung exercises at Ala Moana Beach Park twice a week.

He used the bathroom facility until the city began locking the gates.

“It was very clean compared to the two concession stand showers. This one had extra soap and running cold and hot water,” Ung said.

The city says the bathrooms will remain closed, but other bathrooms and showers at the park are still open.
