Big Island police say a man who died Tuesday while in custody was tased by an officer before he became unresponsive.
Police say officers tried to arrest 39-year-old Randall Hatori for assault and violating a TRO, but he ran.
When they caught up to Hatori, police say he was resisting arrest and an officer used a taser on him.
Police say officers continued to struggle with Hatori. But after placing him in handcuffs, he became unresponsive.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“I’m standing right where he was laying. I’m speechless. I just want answers. I want justice. They can not be doing that,” said Clarence Hatori, brother of Randall Hatori.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, but Hatori’s cause of death has been deferred pending toxicology results.
