HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i and Conference USA’s Rice University have agreed to play a home-and-home football series beginning with the upcoming 2014 season and again in 2018.
The teams will play Oct. 4, 2014 at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas and a yet to be determined date in 2018 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
The 2014 game completes UH’s 13-game schedule. The Rainbow Warriors’ non-conference schedule also includes Washington (Aug. 30), Oregon State (Sept. 6), Northern Iowa (Sept. 13), and at Colorado (Sept. 20). The Mountain West schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hawai’i and Rice have played six times (1999-2004), when the teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The teams last met in 2004 in Houston with Rice winning 41-29. The Owls lead the all-time series, 4-2.
Rice is coming off its first C-USA championship with a 10-win season in 2013. The Owls have made three bowl appearances under head coach David Bailiff.
