Car thief arrested on Kauai

Kauai police arrested a 19-year-old Wailua man after he entered a woman’s truck at Kealia Beach and stole her wallet.

Police say Kaiolohia Youn was arrested for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

According to police, the incident happened shortly after 12 p.m. Sunday when a Nissan pickup truck got stuck in the sand on the north end of Kealia Beach.

The driver of the truck, a 23-year-old woman, was assisted by several beachgoers, who attempted to tow the truck out of the sand.

When Youn arrived to the scene, he helped the driver by pushing the truck. He then entered the truck without permission and began driving it recklessly down the beach.

When Youn returned the truck, the driver noticed her wallet was missing from the front seat. When the woman attempted to question Youn, he fled the scene in a blue Toyota Tacoma.

Police located Youn an hour later at Kapahi Park.

Officers were then able to locate and return the ds stolen wallet.

Youn was arrested and taken into custody. He was released Monday morning on $2,000 bail.
