Salvador sea survivor making a stop in Honolulu

The Salvadoran man, who says he drifted across the Pacific Ocean for more than a year, will make a stop in Hawaii before flying home.

Jose Salvador Alvarenga washed ashore in the Marshall Islands late last month.

He told officials he left Mexico in late 2012 with another fisherman, who later died, when a storm threw them off course.

The 37-year-old Alvarenga flew out Monday and will stop in Honolulu before being reunited with his family.
