HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warrior baseball team kicks off the 2014 season hosting a four-game series against the No.6 Oregon Ducks in the Outrigger Opening Series. The ‘Bows and Ducks will play Friday, Feb. 14 (6:35 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 15 (6:35 p.m.), Sunday, Feb. 16 (1:05 p.m.), and Monday, Feb. 17 (1:05 p.m.).
Hawai’i and Oregon open both their seasons at Les Murakami Stadium for the fourth straight year. UH holds a 12-10 advantage in the overall series but Oregon has won nine of the last 10 meetings including last season’s sweep.
The ‘Bows will field a veteran team this spring as seven of the eight position starters return from 2013. Shortstop Austin Wobrock committed just one error last season while starting all 51 games, the only UH player to do so and Marc Flores figures to be a mainstay again in the UH lineup. Matt Cooper, who led the team in strikeouts last season, returns to the starting rotation along with two-year starter Scott Squier.
The Ducks come in after a successful run in the 2013 NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the Eugene Regional title game. They were picked to finish second in the Pac-12 Preseason Poll.
