The Hawaii State Department of Health has reached a settlement agreement with Kanemitsu Bakery for $20,000 for health violations.

In April 2012, DOH suspended the Molokai bakery’s food establishment permit for numerous health code violations, citing roaches, rodents and evidence of vermin. The report also said the bakery failed to comply with orders to stop all sales of products produced there. The health department says an inspection in June 2012 also revealed serious deficiencies in the maintenance and manufacturing practices conducted at the facility.

The 75-year-old bakery re-opened in mid-November 2012 after making several corrections, like adding new screens to the windows and replacing old counter tops.
