When a life-threatening emergency strikes every second counts.
How quickly can first-responders reach you?
What KHON2 found is that the response time can vary significantly depending on where you are.
Our island’s ambulance resources are assigned much more heavily to some neighborhoods than others.
“Is that one still enough, more than enough? Why? For whatever reason it’s got one of the lowest call volumes on the island,” Honolulu Emergency Services chief Patty Dukes said.
Despite new additions of state of the art ambulance vehicles many more are still needed especially for key growing areas.
But it’s not just a vehicle wish-list.
There are also staffing challenges, financial and physical roadblocks.
KHON2 will explore what more can be done to make sure all areas are adequately covered, and tell you how safe your neighborhood is.
