Opponents of The Collection, a planned 43-story condominium in Kakaako, want the project stopped.
Residents of nearby condo One Waterfront Tower and members of the group Kakaako United are fighting the project’s permit approval, which allows construction to begin. They petitioned Wednesday before the Hawaii Community Development Authority, or HCDA.
“There is no rule statute or authority authorizing this body to reach back in time and take back this permit,” argued Calvert Chipchase, the developer’s attorney.
Sales began last summer for the 397-unit project at the former site of Comp USA.
The HCDA took the issue under advisement and will consult with its legal team before making a decision on the petition in the coming weeks.
