A witness identified Sunia Faaofonuu as the man who came to her door and threatened a boy with a gun.

We’re finding out more about the man accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old boy in Kalihi. Detectives say he took the boy in a ploy to get out of the area.

According to detectives, Sunia Faaofonuu assaulted his wife and was running away from his home when he came upon the 16-year-old boy who was outside a home on Kealoha Pl.

Detectives say he grabbed the boy and held him at gunpoint, then threatened a 19-year-old woman in a home nearby. The woman, Aileen Baay, identified Faaofonuu in court and explained what happened.

“He was like, ‘You can take me out of Kalihi or else I’m going to shoot this boy right here,’” she said.

Baay said she locked herself indoors and called police.

Police say that’s when Faaofonuu ran off with the boy but was caught nearby. The boy was not harmed.

Faaofonuu remains behind bars on $150,000 bail.
