Students and teachers rallied with Honolulu police and Farmers Hawaii employees Wednesday morning in an effort to improve traffic safety in East Oahu.
Dozens gathered along Hawaii Kai Dr. near Kamiloiki Elementary School with signs and, for police, speed guns, to encourage drivers to slow down and watch for students crossing the street.
The school planned the event after a recent repaving project. Organizers feared the smooth surface encouraged even more drivers to speed in the school zone approaching Lunalilo Home Rd.
This is the 84th Farmers Hawaii Hot Spots Traffic Safety event held statewide since 2002 years to raise awareness for pedestrian and traffic safety.
