Thousands of ocean scientists are in Hawaii this week for a conference at the Hawaii Convention center.
Their goal is to address major marine issues around the world.
Organizers feel hawaii is the perfect place to begin the discussion.
“It is exciting. It’s also very appropriate because of that. We have about 54 hundred people registered for the meeting. This is the largest collection of ocean scientists in the world. There’s no question that with the billions of people on earth, we have made major modifications to the environment. And the ocean is this gigantic receptacle that has received many of those problems,” event coordinator Jonathan Sharpe said.
The ocean sciences meeting will kick off tomorrow and continue through Friday at the convention center.
The conference is expected to bring more than $23 million into Hawaii’s economy.
