Hawaiian Electric crews are working to restore power in Waipahu.
Officials say the outage occurred at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, initially affecting more than 1,300 homes and businesses in an industrial area just off Farrington Hwy.
As of 2 p.m. 970 were still without power.
KHON2 spoke to a businessman whose company is one of the island’s major food distributors on how this outage affects his bottom line.
“We’re effectively out of business now. If HECO doesn’t replace this power line overnight, we’ll be out of business tomorrow so that’s going to be a major concern,” Jim Davis of King Food Service said.
Power was restored to all customers by 8:15 p.m.
