Hawaii Fire Department responds to boaters in distress

Boaters in distress

Around 8:30 a.m. the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a boat that was stuck on some reef about 200 yards off Makalei Beach Park.

The boaters said they were sailing around an area better known as “tongs” when they were caught in the break.

HFD responded and towed their boat to shore.

The boaters say damage is minimal and they were lucky they had some help.

“We’re very lucky We didn’t get stuck out there a salvage operation is definitely much more expensive than a simple boat repair so.. As boats, you know they say bust another thousand so it’s definitely gonna be awhile to upkeep the boat but at least it will be up and back sailing some time soon.” Boater Matthew Duncan said.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
