Several University of Hawaii athletes visited Kuhio Elementary School Monday for Read Across America Day.
They read Dr. Seuss books to the kids and talked about what it takes to be a student-athlete at the college level. Many say they enjoy connecting with the young keiki.
“I love reading to the kids,” said UH soccer player Karli Look. “It’s just a great experience, especially because I didn’t have this when I was younger.”
“We talk about adversity and not giving up,” said UH Warrior football player Calen Friel. “Everybody can go to college and play sports.”
Read Across America Day coincides with the birthday of author Dr. Theodor Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss.
