Ask HPD: Drivers cutting corners to avoid red lights

ASK HPD

Honolulu Police Department Capt. Andrew Lum answers this week’s question.

Question: I see drivers avoid a red light at an intersection, cut through a parking lot and get back on the main road. Is this legal?

Answer: This is illegal. Drivers should not take a short cut through any driveway, parking lot or any business entrance to make right or left turns from one street into another.

Drivers who cut corners to avoid an intersection are breaking the law and could face a $97 fine.
