The medical examiner says a man who was trapped in a Jeep that may have been filled with carbon monoxide at Kaena Point has died.
The medical examiner has identified him as 32-year-old Christopher Holbrook.
Police believe Holbrook and a 26-year-old woman were off-roading Saturday afternoon and got stuck as they tried to drive out of the muck.
Bystanders found the vehicle in about three feet of water and broke a back window to pull them out. Police say they were found unconscious inside, possibly of carbon monoxide poisoning, and taken to the hospital.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources points out the area where the Jeep was found is not a designated trail.
Last year, 13 people were cited for violating those rules at Kaena Point.
