Judge Michael Wilson is Hawaii’s newest Supreme Court Justice.
The Senate voted 23-1 with two reservations to confirm Wilson to the Supreme Court of Hawaii Monday.
“I am really humbled and grateful by the consent of the Senate,” Wilson said after the hearing. “(Senate) President (Donna Mercado) Kim and the senators have been kind and patient and they’ve treated me with fairness and with due process, and I’m especially grateful to the chairman of the Senate judiciary committee, Sen. Clayton Hee, for his courage and strength and his wisdom throughout this entire process.”
The confirmation comes despite controversy from the Hawaii State Bar Association, which deemed Wilson “unqualified” for the post.
Unconfirmed reports claim Judge Wilson had “demeaned” female members of his staff, though the association refuses to reveal specific allegations.
