(CNN) — In Seattle Thursday, police scrambled to tamp down rumors that they were re-examining the death of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain.
Social media erupted earlier today with speculation that there was new information in the singer’s death.
The tweets started to fly after Seattle news station KIRO published a story titled “Seattle police re-examine Kurt Cobain death.”
It turns out an officer did recently look back at the 1994 case file — but only to refresh himself on the details in anticipation of media interest for the upcoming 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death on April 4.
The officer said he did discover an undeveloped roll of film in the file, but the pictures didn’t show anything of new interest.
The police department reaffirmed the original finding that Cobain committed suicide by shooting himself while high on heroin and pills.
