OSO, Wash. (KING/CNN) – Three people are dead, and several others hurt or missing after a massive landslide yesterday in Snohomish County, Washington — about an hour outside of Seattle.
Eight people, including an infant, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
At least six homes have been destroyed.
Crews have been working through the night trying to find people trapped under debris.
Mud and trees blocked the Sillaguamish River and completely covered State Road 530.
The video was taken by Paulo Falco who says he was just a few cars away when the earth starting moving. He said the mudslide hit quickly.
“I was coming down the hill and I saw the darkness like somebody wants to grab you and everything was gone like, three seconds,” Falco said.
Officials say there is the potential for serious flooding downstream of the part of the river that is blocked.
They are urging residents in the affected area to evacuate.
Groundwater saturation tied to heavy rainfall in the area over the past month is being blamed for the landslide, which authorities say is at least 45 yards wide.
