Kapahulu residents turned to KHON2 to find out why lights at a popular park were on at all hours of the day and night.
On Thursday morning, KHON2 checked and found the field lights were on at Crane Park.
According to the city, Honolulu police notified staff about the lights Wednesday night. The city also received a complaint Thursday morning from a woman who said the lights had been on since Tuesday.
City staff turned them off, but the lights turned on again around noon.
“Around 3:30 p.m. the light was still on here. It is kind of weird cause they usually go on a little later like five or six o’clock maybe,” said park user Mark Nagato. “It’s kind of wasting electricity, wasting power.”
After receiving another complaint, the city returned to the park, turned off the lights and reset the timers. The city says no obvious issues with the timers were evident.
If the problem continues, the city says it will send an electrician to figure out what’s wrong.
