The stormy weather caused quite a scare for a group of California visitors.

Five women in Hawaii for spring break went for a hike along Maunawili Falls trail Friday morning. They began at around 11 a.m. and, during a sudden downpour, found themselves trapped by rising stream water.

“They made it out pretty much on their own,” said Capt. Mark Kuwaye with the Honolulu Fire Dept. “They said the water rose on them rather quickly and then it receded and they were able to make their way out.”

Rescue crews caught up with them to make sure they safely made it out of the area. No one was hurt.
