Big Island woman charged with attempted murder

Hawaii Island police detectives have charged a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman for several offenses stemming from the attempted murder of a Kona man.

On Friday, March 28, at 7:47 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Waiono Meadows Rd. Police say Randi-Keli K. Banagan got into a confrontation with a 26-year-old Holualoa man and shot him with a rifle.

The victim was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Detectives charged Banagan with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree, terroristic threatening in the first degree, reckless endangering in the second degree, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, three counts of place to keep loaded firearm, three counts of loaded firearm on a public highway, place to keep ammunition, two counts of illegal transfer possession of firearms, two counts of permit to acquire firearm, two counts of ownership possession firearm prohibited, promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and drug paraphernalia.

Bail was set at $498,000.
