A man accused of stealing a car then leading police on a chase near Punahou has been indicted by a grand jury.

Darryl Higgins, 31, was indicted on charges of first-degree attempted assault, assault on a law enforcement officer and unauthorized control of a vehicle.

On March 25, at 3:25 p.m., Honolulu police says officers observed Higgins speeding in a vehicle and discovered it was stolen. Officers followed Higgins to a gas station near Washington Middle School, where he jumped back into the vehicle and tried to drive away, dragging an officer as he fled. Police say Higgins then hit two other vehicles that were stopped in traffic.

Higgins was initially arrested for attempted murder but never charged for that offense.

His bail is confirmed at $250.000.
