High surf advisory issued for east-facing shores of Maui, Molokai

The National Weather Service has continued the high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai, in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Expect surf of 5 to 8 feet along east facing shores.

Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Precautionary measures for beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.

Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
