Dozens gathered on the steps of Honolulu Hale Thursday to help the Hawaii Foodbank fight hunger.
The crowd, which included Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, cabinet members, Honolulu firefighters and Hawaii Foodbank representatives, formed a human chain to fill a waiting fire truck with non-perishable food donations.
Mayor Caldwell also declared April 2014 as Feed Hawaiis Hungry Month in the City and County of Honolulu.
The event is part of Hawaii Foodbank’s 25th annual food drive, which takes place Saturday, April 19.
The non-profit provides emergency food assistance to 14 percent of Hawaii’s population each year.
