The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and the Big island, in effect until 12 p.m. Friday.
Surf is expected from 5 to 8 feet along east-facing shores.
NWS has also issued a high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and north-facing shores of Maui this weekend. The advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
Surf is expected to reach 14-18 ft. for north-facing shores and 8-12 ft. for west-facing shores. Waves are expected to build Friday and reach advisory threshold Friday night through Saturday night.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
