One of the victims in this week’s deadly shooting at Fort Hood was previously stationed at Schofield Barracks.
Fort Hood confirms Sgt. Carlos Alberto Lazaney Rodriguez, 38, was stationed on Oahu from January 2008 to July 2009.
Three people, including Rodriguez, were killed and 16 others injured when Spc. Ivan Lopez opened fire on the Army installation, then took his own life.
Sgt. Rodriguez’s aunt, Benny, told CNN the Puerto Rico native spent 20 years in the Armed Forces and served in Kosovo and Afghanistan. She says he planned to retire from the Army later this year.
Benny Rodriguez says the soldier will be remembered as a jovial and good person who was loved by many.
The post will honor the victims at a memorial next Wednesday.
