A 26-year-old Hilo man is dead after an early morning car crash in Keaau.

It happened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning on the Keaau-Pahoa Rd. between the three and four mile-markers.

Police say Matthew S. Therrien was traveling west on the Keaau-Pahoa Rd. when he overtook a vehicle and collided with a Ford pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The 52-year-old man driving the truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.  He was also arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
