A new type of fuel has made its way to Hawaii.
Hawaii Gas brought in its first shipment of liquefied natural gas or LNG on Apr. 2.
They’re the first company to bring this type of fuel into the state.
LNG will be used as a backup fuel for the company’s synthetic natural gas operations.
“Right now Hawaii depends so much on oil for our energy needs and we want to shift some of that oil energy to natural gas energy which is cleaner, it’s abundant and it’s a lot cheaper for us in Hawaii,” Kevin Nishimura
Hawaii Gas received approval on Mar. 6 from the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission to bring in LNG.
