18 million taxpayers can’t reach IRS for help

With the April 15 tax-filing deadline around the corner, an estimated 18 million callers seeking help from the IRS won’t be able to reach a real person this year.

According to IRS data, that is about 40 percent of all tax season callers.

IRS commissioner John Koskinen says he’s aware of the long wait times.

Koskinen mostly blamed federal budget cuts for the problem.
