Dozens gathered on the beach in Waikiki Sunday for the 29th annual Duke Kahanamoku beach challenge.
It’s a fundraiser for the Waikiki Community Center.
One of the volunteers for the event was long time Waikiki fixture Richard Bell, who’s known for blowing the conch shell at sunset at the Ilikai Hotel.
“I blow the conch shell at the Ilikai Hotel and I’ve been there since the hotel opened which is 50 years ago. My cousin, Napua Stevens, hired me. She was the entertainment director and I’ve been there ever since…Every day. So I blow my horn, then I come paddle.” Waikiki icon Richard Bell said.
The money that was fund-raised will go to scholarships for college students.
