A Maui woman is dead after she was hit by a vehicle in Lahaina Monday, April 14.
It happened at 3:44 p.m. on Honoapiilani Hwy. at the entrance to Puamana Beach Park.
Police say Mary Fletcher, 50, was waiting to make a left turn into the park when she was hit from behind by a Ford Mustang. She was rushed to Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died.
The driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old Kihei man, was treated and released at the scene.
Police say Fletcher was wearing a helmet and the driver’s side airbag deployed during the crash. The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.
This is Maui County’s eighth traffic fatality of the year compared to four the same time as last year.
This also the fifth traffic fatality on Maui roadways in the last 10 days
