Maui police look for truck in deadly hit-and-run

Maui police is requesting help from the public in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that took place on Tuesday, April 15.

At around 11:13 p.m., police say Viki Deardorff, 51, was hit by a truck while walking along Piilani Hwy., near N. Kihei Rd. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled the scene and failed to provide any assistance.

Police say Deardorff was not in a marked crosswalk. The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.

Crash investigators are looking for a 2012-2014 Toyota Tacoma, bronze or khaki in color. The vehicle will have fresh damages to the front passenger side grill, fender and headlight area.
