Hit-and-run suspect turns himself into Maui police

The Maui Police Department’s Vehicle Homicide Unit has arrested a 41-year-old Wailuku man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run.

On Tuesday, April 15, at around 11:13 p.m., police say Viki Deardorff, 51, was hit by a truck while walking along Piilani Hwy., near N. Kihei Rd. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was arrested at the Wailuku Police Station after turning himself in Friday morning.

He was arrested on one count of accidents involving injury or death and released pending further investigation. Police did not release his name and photograph because he was not charged.

The Vehicle Homicide Unit went to his residence where he said his truck would be. The truck was parked inside his closed garage.

Vehicle Homicide Unit officers had previously been to his residence before he had turned himself in, however nobody answered the door.

Police processed the truck and seized the truck as evidence in this case. The truck recovered was a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, bronze in color.
