KHON2’s Joe Moore and Pat Sajak will take the stage at the Hawaii Theatre in a stage adaptation of the 1993 dramatic comedy “Wrestling Ernest Hemingway.”

Performances will be held at the Hawaii Theatre for 11 performances, June 19-29.

“Wrestling Ernest Hemingway” centers around two polar opposite retirees who are anything but retiring. Frank (Moore), is a loutish, former Irish-American sea captain, who says he once wrestled Ernest Hemingway. Walter (Sajak) is a soft spoken, mild mannered, former barber who is a dancing enthusiast. The two old men with seemingly nothing in common are living solitary lives in a small Florida town when they meet in a park, and their unlikely friendship begins.

The cast of characters features Bernice (Loretta Ables Sayre), a wise cracking snack shop waitress who gives Frank and Walter a hard time; Helen (Eden-Lee Murray), Frank’s hard-nosed landlady who will drink his Irish whiskey but draws the line there; Elaine (Therese Olival), a cheerful snack shop waitress who enjoys Walter’s shy flirting; and Mom (Stephanie Conching), who has two little girls (Erisan Awaya, Brooke Johnson).

Local theatre veteran, Rob Duval, who directed year’s Heaven Forbid!, will direct the production.

Ticket sales to the general public begin Saturday, April 19.

Evening performances run June 19-21 and June 25-28 at 7 p.m., with matinee performances June 21-22 and June 28-29 at 2 p.m. All seating will be on the orchestra level (downstairs).
