Rainbow Warriors to host Spring Fling on Saturday

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i football team will conclude its four-week spring practice with the annual “Spring Fling,” Saturday, April 26 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.

Gates open at 12:00 p.m. with festivities beginning at 1:00 p.m. The intrasquad “Warrior Bowl” scrimmage is scheduled for approximately 3:30 p.m.

At 1:00 p.m., the coaching staff will conduct games and a youth clinic. Alumni flag football games begin at 2:00 p.m. and the Na Koa Football Club is encouraging former Rainbow Warriors to sign up teams. For more information, contact Joyce Lau at 956-4513 or joyce@nakoa.org.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., the Rainbow Warriors will hit the field for stretching exercises before conducting a full-contact scrimmage. Offensive line coach Chris Naeole and defensive line coach Lewis Powell will serve as head coaches.

Twelve (12) Hawaiian Airlines inter-island tickets will be awarded to UH students at halftime of the scrimmage. There will be a Manoa Maniacs table located inside the main entrance for students to sign up for the chance to participate in the contest. Registrations will be accepted from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. In addition, the Manoa Maniacs will be distributing various items at their table before the game.

The main entrance to the Ching Athletics Complex will be near the ‘ewa side end zone. Bleacher seats hold approximately 800, so fans are encouraged to bring blankets, beach mats or sand chairs, which are allowed on the grass areas. Due to ongoing construction, fans are not allowed on the mauka side of the facility. Standing on the track will be allowed. Smoking is prohibited inside Ching Athletics Complex. Sodexo will be selling refreshments.

Following the scrimmage, players will be available for autographs and photos on the field so fans are encouraged to bring their own cameras and items to sign.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year the team will hold its final spring practice at Ching Athletics Complex. Last year’s event drew a crowd of approximately 900, who witnessed the Black Team’s 27-21 victory over the Green Team.
