Maui could become the next county to ban smoking in public places.
The Maui county council voted to pass a bill prohibiting tobacco use in county parks, beaches and facilities.
“I was ecstatic it passed with my colleagues’ support. We are looking at a bill that will protect our environment as well as secure the health of our future generation,” said Maui Council Member Don Guzman who introduced the bill.
The bill will become law after Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa signs off on it.
He has 10 days to act on it.
Oahu and the Big Island have similar smoking bans in place.
