Ask HPD: Making a U-turn on streets in Honolulu

Honolulu Police Department Capt. Andrew Lum answers this week’s question.

Question: At intersections, when can a driver make a U-turn?

Answer: In Honolulu, a driver cannot make a U-turn on streets in a business district, upon a roadway with three or more lanes, or at an intersection controlled by traffic signals, unless there is a sign indicating that you can do so.

A street in a business district is within 600 feet from buildings used for business, public, or industrial purposes. Violators face $97.
