The Honolulu Police Department celebrated the promotion of 45 officers, including a new assistant chief, Wednesday.

The officers were recognized at a special ceremony at Ala Moana Beach Park’s McCoy Pavilion Auditorium.

Alan Bluemke, a 27-year veteran of the department, was promoted to assistant chief where he’ll oversee the Special Field Operations Bureau.

“(The bureau) encompasses the Specialized Services Division, the Community Affairs Division, Major Events Division, Legislative Liaison Office, so actually I have my hands full,” he said. “It means a lot more challenges and a lot more opportunity to help the administration go forward, good opportunities to help the community of Honolulu and I’m looking forward to it.”

Bluemke has led the Human Resources Division for nearly two years. His earlier assignments include the Professional Standards Office and Specialized Services Division.

Six lieutenants, 19 sergeants and detectives and 19 corporals were also promoted.

All promotions take effect this Sunday.
